Buddy buffet, Drum & Dance workshop and more fun!

Partner Schools Worldwide > Weydon School and Ayensudo Islamic JHS > Buddy buffet, Drum & Dance workshop and more fun!

Tuesday 30th July

Day 10

Today, we had Judith’s birthday and had pancakes for breakfast to celebrate. Then, we had a long morning painting, and also getting covered in paint, where we nearly finished all of the murals. We also concreted the posts for the volleyball net ,weaved from our water bags, into the field. We experienced heavy rainfall today meaning that the sand became very wet and sticky! All through the day, the cook team had to help Mary to prepare the buffet for our buddies in the afternoon. However, before the buffet could begin, everyone took part in an African drumming and dancing workshop, which we then had to perform in the village square with an audience of locals. One of the instructors played with fire and had people from the audience, including us, throw balls of fire at him for him to catch in his mouth and eat. Faye burnt her hand but only slightly so is fine now. I was asked to do it but had to go after Faye and decided that I didn’t like to play with fire, so didn’t do and Elliott did it instead (he likes fire). We had a huge variety of food at the buffet which was all extremely delicious, and then we discussed what each of us had learnt from our buddies while we have been with them and then exchanged our gifts. Many people received dungarees or fabric, although, the majority were far too small! As time passed on, we played music and danced with everyone as well as taking photos with our buddies and exchanging ways to contact each other. -Amber
