Today we woke up early at around 5:45 to make our previously prepared rotis in the the mud hut at the end of the plot. They are a mixture of coconut and flour, like a thick pancake but more coconutty! After breakfast our buddies arrived, but this time it was a full moon day meaning a public holiday so there was no school. We were split in half with one half continuing with project work as the others (Maddy, Kate, Connie, Ella and Tilly) went to visit their buddies’ houses and families. We made some brilliant progress on both the mural and the playground, with more pots also being painted in an education fashion (1 -12 in english, ready to be made into a clock or hopscotch).

At 12:30 we all headed to Inosh’s house (Zoë’s buddy) for a big, seafood filled lunch (including the lobster named ‘Sebastian’) with delicious buffalos curd with treacle and sugar for desert. Then 4 other people (Alex, Jess, Ollie T and Ben) went to see their buddies as the rest headed back to continue the projects. By 3:00 the 4 were back and mingling with their buddies, including a game of “Triggy” in the middle, which involved plenty of action.

After tying Maddy to a tree in sacrifice to the Thunder Gods (which she managed to escape from!), Will and Olly Y went off to their buddies’ houses as they were further away. Dan and Izzy still have to see their buddies’ houses on Sunday and Monday. After finishing work at 5:30, we freshened up and headed to the Buddhist temple with our buddies. There we gave some flowers to the Lord Buddha and worshipped him at three different places, including a special tree and then a service entirely in Sinhala. After the 45 minute service we said goodbye to our buddies and headed home for dinner. See you in the morning.
