Today was action packed from to start to finish. Beginning at 6am we woke and soon headed to the Tzu Chi National school in order to begin work on painting the mural of the two schools on their wall. After chatting with the buddies, a small group of students and buddies came back to the Janoda Foundation building to carry on with the unfinished project work. Back at Tzu Chi school, in the baking heat, buddies made good progress on the mural and had it finished by 3 o’clock. Following this, the remaining buddies came back to the Janoda building and the Sri Lankan students headed off home while Weydon freshened up and prepared to visit the wood carvers around 5km away. This was a fascinating experience as the carver showed us his skills, hand carving an intricate elephant from a piece of wood in less than half an hour. The students then got an opportunity to purchase some of the carvings (of which there were many varieties of elephants). After this, we stopped off to buy a local delicacy called hoppers and brought them back to enjoy at the foundation. The last activity of the day was a special treat for the students as they were allowed to purchase a selection of food and drink from the local super market.
