Today we had a later start of 6:30 and after a Watermelon filled breakfast we set about starting our various projects on the Janoda Site. These included a mural on the side of the pre-school, fixing and renovating a climbing frame as well as painting clay pots ready for a learning path made by the summer teams. The design on the mural is a peacock with the buddies hand prints as the feathers. Below the peacock is the universal numbers of 1-10 followed with the Sinhala equivalent. Either side of the peacock is the Weydon shield and the Janoda Foundation badge. After a delicious pineapple curry for lunch we awaited the arrival of our buddies.
We quickly continued with our projects; painting the mural together, making joint pots including ones with both our buddies and our names on them, the new climbing frame floor was sanded down due to the fact that the old floor had come loose from its nails and rotted away. The boys then had a football match whilst the girls, of course, sat in the shade and carried on painting more pots for the projects. (girls are boring!!!!)
In the evening, after the buddies had left, we went into Hambantota to do some shopping. We bought saris and biscuits, as well as our favourite Sri Lankan jam. After a slight delay with the fabric department, we headed home for dinner, and as a surprise it was…chinese!!!
We are having an early night after preparing rotis for breakfast in the mud hut at the bottom on our site. See you in the morning.
