Hello from Ghana!
These last three days have been full of excitement and we want to tell you about it. We have been doing lots of project work at the school. All of the pupils at the school are really friendly and all want to see and talk to us.
Monday 30th March 2015
We were all very excited to go to the school for the first time and see all of the pupils. When we arrived, all the pupils came out of their classrooms to see us. We went straight to the library and when we were in there, all the younger children came to the window and gave us high fives (we taught them how to fist bump!) We unpacked all the books we brought over and placed them on the bookshelves while the Ghanaians organised a welcoming ceremony.
The ceremony was very enjoyable with lots of dancing (which we joined in with!) and music. There was a lot of laughter when Jessica’s chair fell backwards while sitting down!
That evening we finally got to go into a swimming pool which cooled us all down after a long day at the school.
Tuesday 31st March 2015
We started the day by going to the school again, this was the first time we did some hands on project work. Some people stayed in the library and showed the Ghanaian pupils how to use the laptops, while the rest of us painted the library, an office and some classrooms. It was a hot and tiring morning (even the Ghanaians were hot) and we finished it off with a Fante lesson (the local Ghanaian language).
When we arrived back at Stumble Inn most of us went paddling in the sea while others sat and enjoyed the cool air. The waves in the sea were huge and exciting.
Wednesday 1st April 2015
As it is the 1st of April us kids decided to play a little prank on Ms Kennedy… Josh decided to lose his Malaria tablets! (he didn’t really). Ms Kennedy got all the boys in his room to search their bags from top to bottom, and when she found out it was a joke she found it very funny but she wasn’t going to let us get away that easily…
Everyone was exited and ready to start painting again. We were going to put murals on the walls of the library and finishing the painting outside. Just as we were about the leave, Isee (our Partner Ghana friend) came out and said that we had to go to Accra to meet the head of Partner Ghana. (The teachers were in on the prank already) Ms Kennedy pretended to have a fit and went to have a fake phone call to tell him how unhappy see was. Mr Jessup explained that if we didn’t go, our partnership would be over. The drive to Accra would take 4 hours there and 4 hours back which would take our whole day. We all went back our rooms and got money and stuff to do and got onto the coach.
Once we found out it was a prank we went to the school again and did more tiring project work (this has been the hardest day of work so far but everyone put loads of effort in). Some of us painted some amazing murals of Ghana, Africa and England. Also some of us played outside with the students and taught them how to play splat and It!
P.S: Happy Birthday to Jess’ dad for tomorrow!
Thanks for the birthday wishes and good to hear you are all having a great time ..Iain Jess’ Dad
