Sri Lanka Day 3.5

We were just getting into bed yesterday when we got a call saying that some hatchlings had been found on a local beach and they were going to make there way down to the see. Speedily (yet drowsy) we got our clothes back on and jumped on the bus. We then spent the next 1.5 hours down on the beach help many Hatchlings including ‘Murtle’, ‘Maddy’, ‘Maddie’, ‘Maddie Jr’, ‘Essiotrot’ and ‘Tyra Banks’! We then were told that elephants had been spotted near (apparently) us and we jumped back on the bus and went looking for them. We had been going nearly 1.5 hours and still no elephant so we eventually gave up and headed home. Bed time had gone from 9:30 to 1:00 am.

Sri Lanka Day 4

This morning we woke up at 6am to take  part in an informative yoga class about the mind, spirit and body (and how these can effect your health). We also learnt several yoga positions, which were very relaxing – the ‘dead body’ position or ‘Suchasama’. This is  where you lie flat on the ground and fall asleep/relax! We also learnt to control our breathing. Afterwards we had a delicious breakfast including pineapple and fried eggs (with rice and curry of course!) we walked to the Janoda Pre-School and were greeted by roughly 40 children (aged up to 5 years) carrying flower necklaces that were of course, gratefully accepted. We all sang songs including ‘Wheels on the Bus’, ‘Head Shoulders Knees and Toes’, and ‘Hoacky Coakey’. Also the Team split into groups and read with the children, which mainly involved us providing the books, and them turning the pages, with some reading in the middle. The team then tried drawing pictures and getting the children to recite them back, which went surprisingly well. We stayed till around 12:00 when we came back to the house and chillaxed before lunch; some of us catching up on the few hours we lost from waking up at 6:00! After another pineapple filled lunch we hung around until 15:00 when we went to Tzu-Chi school to catch up with our buddies and play some ‘elle’ (a Sri Lankan version of rounders) and Cricket afterwards. We then were made to WALK!!! a whole 300 yards back to the house before and early dinner which is now being made. After dinner we are heading on a 1 hour drive to a beach to see some adult turtles lay some eggs ready to be hatched soon. See you in the morning.
