Everyone’s sporting green

We’ll start at the beginning of the day. To be more precise, 1am when the electricity came back on. Whilst we’ve been here we have relied on the fan to keep us cool so without it, we boil.

After a hearty breakfast of scrambled eggs, beans and bread, we walked down to the school for another day of painting. The classrooms and outer buildings are painted yellow and the window shutters are painted with a green gloss. We swear that the green paint is the devil in disguise. It takes FOREVER to get off.

So far we have completed the kindergarten and most of the high school, tomorrow we are mainly doing some touch ups and the finishing of the mural.

After a morning of working hard we stayed at school for a well deserved lunch of spaghetti bolognese, and as always, water in a bag.

In the afternoon, we participated in sports day. We got into seven teams of six; three people from Brownedge and then each persons buddy from Amisano joined the group as well. We then competed in events such as the sack race, lime and spoon, and the three-legged race. Amy and Megan are very proud of winning the final of the three-legged race.

When the races were over and everyone had enjoyed a well earned participation lolly, three boys from Brownedge and the boys from Amisano donned some new football kits and started a match. Tom scored an impressive goal near the beginning of the game and is likely to still be showing off about it this time next year. It was pretty good though so well done Tom.

Finally, after a tiring day of painting, running and cheering, we all grabbed our bags and started the journey back through the village and to the seminary. However, on the way back we spotted a small shack selling edible goods. BISCUITS. A few members of the group bought some snacks. We put together our change and bought three small packets of king crackers and four cans of fanta. We learnt that in Ghana the fanta is a lot sweeter because the syrup and cans are sent over and then the drink is made in this country. Whereas in England, the drink is ready made and then imported.

Tea was really good tonight. We had plain rice with a cabbage based curry sauce. Most people even got up for seconds- including us! After eating, we all sat down to play a few fun games of Mafia. Then we filled up our buckets from the water tank and carried them up to our rooms. Nobody has yet perfected the art of carrying a large volume of water on their heads without ending up drenched.

Now everyone is in their rooms and all we can hear is the constant chirping of crickets. It’s a good job we are all tired enough to sleep through anything.

Night god bless x

By Megan, Beatrice and Louise.
