Sunday 18th August 2013
Being Sunday, we thought it appropriates to make our weekly visit to church. All churches proved to be the ultimate culture experience, and once again each of us came away with a refreshed view of Christianity. Blown away by the extreme volume of the Ghanaians prayers and hymns, we began to enjoy a relaxing Sunday morning despite the unhealthy heat of the sun.
After a lunch of tuna and cheese sandwiches, we all headed down to a selection of farms and plantations with our buddies, while somehow Isaac magically transformed into a tour guide. His new identity in hand, Isaac proceeded to explain the origins of coco in Ghana; the uses of palm oil and how oranges are actually medicinal. Finally, as the sun began to set, we all enjoyed Augustinas’ delicious Chinese noodles, while contemplating the importance of a good card game. And another day was done.
Rieden family:
Annie – seriously stop hanging out with my friends
Snowy – love you lots, and no offence, but if you were here I would kill you for meat.
Mum – When I get back, could I please have some money?
Dad – its so hot here, the only thing that keeps me going is the knowledge that if you were here, you would burn.
Love you all xx
Monday 19th August 2013
Today we woke up early and worked hard to finish our projects in the chiefs palace and the store room, both of which are looking very good. While the boys conveniently played football all morning, they lost. Quote Jamie “I scored a fantastic goal”. After that we then had lunch, which included meat, as a little celebration for finishing our projects.
As our final venture with our buddies we took a trip back to Brenu Beach for the afternoon. As soon as we arrived everyone ran into the sea including most of the buddies who were great fun and it was lovely to spend quality time with just our buddies for the last time. Finally, we returned to the village to enjoy a delicious dinner and campfire.
As we begin to approach the end of our time in Dwabor everyone is very sad and no one wants to leave but are excited to return home and tell our friends and family about our adventures. Tomorrow is our last day here before we journey on to Volta Region and we are all looking forward to our final evening with everyone at the buddy buffet. The buddy buffet includes us and our Ghanaian buddies cooking a range of dishes for each other to try.
