Visit Mt. Afadjato – Ghana’s highest Mountain

Day 18 Tuesday 24th July

Student leaders: George and Matt Sarge

The group were awakened by an energetic Mr Grant at 6.30am. After gathering our belongings for the treacherous hike, the boys headed for the main hotel to have breakfast. The whole 51 member group then sprung off their seats, eager to take on the highest mountain in West Africa.

At last, the arrival at the foot of Mt. Afadjato fell upon us. The two student leaders, George and Sarge led the way with the mighty Isee, Sam and Joe. Steps had passed, rocks had been climbed and the group finally summited the mountain. The quickest time was 30 minutes for the mighty and consistent Sam Russell. (Editor’s note – most of the group made it up in about an hour).

Once the group had gathered at the meeting point at the bottom after the cautious descent, we set off to return to the hotel to demolish a well deserved lunch. The drained Hulmeians were uplifted when the thought of visiting the highest waterfall in Africa (Editor’s note – it’s not). After a 30 minute walk, the sight of the majestic falls appeared with bats circulating. It did nothing but amaze us. Everyone headed for the plunge pool.
When the water fell, strong winds of light water attacked the young Hulmeians. What an experience!

To top off the day, we had dinner and headed back to our hotel for the final night. Although the thoughts of missing home and family are hitting hard, nothing will stop us enjoying our final days in Ghana.
