Visit to the Bruku Rock Shrine and Chief Palace.

Day 9. Sunday, 15th July 2018
Student Leaders: Eleyna and Nina

Today we had an early start, so we wolfed down our breakfast of porridge before our trip to the Bruku Shrine.

The bus ride there was one of the bumpiest journeys I’ve ever had: our orange safari truck was often on the wrong side of the road to avoid potholes. We met our buddies there and began the climb accompanied by a police escort! We reached the top and had to pour libations to the ancestors. Some of the team even climbed the lower part of the rock. (Don’t worry, everyone made it back in one piece). On our descent we saw a scorpion and a huge millipede. We then got back on the safari truck and drove back to the hostel.

We then freshened up ready to meet the chief of the whole of Kwahu Tafo. As student leaders, we prepared a speech of our mission to present to the chief and all the elders.

We arrived at the palace and led the group in to the sound of beating drums. After a long wait, Nana Kofi Yeboah (Mr Dalziel) paraded in his full chief dress. It was very amusing especially with his T-shirt tan lines. The Queen Mother followed shortly after and then finally the chief. Mr Dalziel addressed the chief and then we did through his interpreter, Nana Kata. We gave the chief an England shirt and drinks and Nina had a picture taken. Promptly after the ceremony, we were kindly invited to the chief’s house where we were all given food and drinks.
