Weydon – baby elephants, turtles and more curries

Partner Schools Worldwide > Weydon School and Tzu-chi International School (Sri Lanka) > Weydon – baby elephants, turtles and more curries

This morning we woke up at 6:45 to get ready for breakfast by 7:30. After eating rotties with jam/curry, we got into the bus ready to visit some of our buddies’ houses. We went to five buddies’ houses: Yasmin’s, Ed’s, Simon’s, Tom’s and Tilly’s. At every house we were offered a huge array of miscellaneous foods, so by the time we finished we were very full! At Rashmina’s house, we met his younger sister, who peed on Miss Stallwood – she has vowed never to hold babies again! We were then given lunch at Sithme’s (Tilly’s buddy) house – curry yet again – which we had to eat with our hands. It was a bit of a messy affair but gave us a lot of laughs.

We travelled back to the Janoda Foundation after lunch to get ready to visit the safari. We watched orphan elephants feeding and on the way we saw a wild elephant by the road! The babies were very cute and everyone enjoyed themselves – though we had to run back to the bus as a storm hit us while we were there. Simon managed to accidentally flick his flip flop into the elephant pen, so after getting it back Miss Copeman duct-taped his shoes to his feet, which was hilarious!

After a quick dinner we got on the bus once again, travelling to the beach to see the turtles. We saw a mother turtle laying her eggs, covering them with sand to protect them and then helped her into the sea. While we waited for her to rest before leaving, we all napped on the sand and stargazed. The bus was silent on the way home as everyone had fallen asleep, save for the slight commotion at the start when an enormous flying beetle gave us all a scare!

I can’t believe this trip has gone so quickly, but I’m really looking forward to spending out last day with the team and our friends at Tzu Chi School tomorrow.
