Warden Park and Ankaase Basic School

Partner Schools Worldwide > Warden Park and Ankaase JHS > Warden Park and Ankaase Basic School

Day 1: Saturday, 20th June 2015

What can we say? After hours of travelling, we have finally made it to our camp, Ankaase school. We started of with a six hour plane journey before arriving in Accra. As we left the plane we were first met by a long immigration check questions and an E bola scan. Once through security, we first changed our money into the local currency, Cedi. Next we made our way to our transportation for the evening. One of our vehicles was a small mini bus, which became the boys bus. The second was a large safari lorry, which became the girls coach. After a short journey to our overnight stop, we had a quick drink and ate some plantain, (a traditional Ghanaian snack) and then headed to bed.

Day 2: Sunday, 21st June 2015

After an early start and a slice of toast for breakfast, we jumped back in the vehicles and headed off to Ankasse school. On route, we stoped off at a couple of service stations to grab some snacks and empty the tanks. The toilet facilities were interesting to say the least, in fact it was pretty much a wall behind the petrol station. We drove through a number of areas full of street venders, however no cash was spent. We were also fascinated by all the animals roaming wild on the streets; these included goats, cows, sheep and chickens. Our final stop was at the Partner Ghana offices where we met our local guides and learnt some basic local language. Finally we arrived on the school grounds, where we were met by many curious and excited locals. They were pleased to see us and we were pleased to see them after such a long journey!

We finished the day off watching two of the local teams play football on one of the most unique pitches we have ever come across. With huge pot holes and mounds on the ground and the added challenge of chickens running across the pitch, the players certainly had it tough. We also socialised with the locals, who were very keen to greet us and take our pictures. Our lunch and dinner was prepared at the school; for lunch, we had spaghetti and a tomato sauce and for dinner we were treated to rice with a vegetable sauce and a boiled egg. After a long weekend of travelling we kicked back and relaxed for a while before heading to bed.
