Weydon Team 8 – Friday 16th August

Partner Schools Worldwide > Weydon and Dwabor JHS > Weydon Team 8 – Friday 16th August

Friday 16th

Today the team got a much needed lie in, due to our brilliant progress the day before as well as the pouring rain! Because nearly all of our projects are finished or are near to being finished, most of the team had a constructive morning doing whatever they want. The favourite was cards. Some of the team however, went back down to chief’s palace to finish the murals.

At 11:30 the team got back together to get ready for our ‘theatre for change’ workshop where we would act out a play based on child labour, this technique would get through to the community and hopefully put a stop to any child labour that was happening in Dwabor.

The afternoon was spent practicing our acting skills, building a plot for the play which was based on a true story, as well as fun little activities. The clear favourite was a song called, ‘The Little Green Frog’ in which the team had to do a cute dance to a cheesy song! The story was mostly in Fante, (The Dwabor community’s native language) as well as a bit of English so both community and British team could understand what was happening. Jamie and Hatty were parents, Luke was the teacher, Olivia and Oscar where siblings and Kirsty was a ‘spoilt child’ the rest of the team where students in Luke’s class! We also had the help of our Ghanaian buddies to be other characters.

After a whole day practising at 6:00 we made our way down to the village to perform our piece. A lot of the community gathered, to watch and the play was a big success! Once we performed we opened the story up to the community where they got to voice their opinions, and change the story.

By Hatty and Jamie:
