Day 7
Today we went with our buddies to Kakum National Park, the last tropical rainforest left in Ghana. It was very warm and humid and we saw a lot of wildlife like millipedes, lizards and colourful butterflies. At Kakum we went on the Skywalk which is a walkway suspended up to 40metres above the ground. Although it was quite wobbly it was very safe and high netting kept us safe. On the way home we started to sing songs led by Nana, our cook and Kieran, it was great fun and we all joined in singing and clapping.
When we got back we went to our buddies houses for a little while and saw how they lived, it was quite a shock compared to our houses. We also met their families. Afterwards we went for a walk to get some coconuts and our buddy Benjamin climbed a tree and threw some down which the land owner chopped for us with his machete
In the evening we had a buffet with our buddies and we all sat around talking, laughing and joking.
Day 8
On Sunday morning we went with our buddies to the local churches which was very interesting it was very different to ours with a lot of loud singing, clapping and dancing. In the afternoon we went down to the beach and had fun in the sea, which was great fun.
Later in the evening we chatted to our buddies and sang some songs, before we all discussed the trip and said how we felt.
Day 9
We all went down to the school for the official handover of the Library and ICT project. We were there with our buddies and a lot of local dignities including the local queen mother, the community elders and Partner Ghana representatives. The handover was really good and we got to see the library and the new IT system set up by Mr. Wood for the school. It was really good to see the project finished and working, everyone thought it was really good and thanked us for our work.
We then went back to site 14 to spend the last time with our buddies and finish packing. This was quite a sad time as we had made some really good friends and had a really great time. It was all over too quickly but we will all definitely remember this experience for the rest of our lives. We would like to thank Miss Knight and Mr. Wood for their work and help.
