Day 1
Arriving in Ghana was surreal: we hit a wall of heat and humidity as soon as we stepped out of the plane. The following day we were all slightly apprehensive arriving at school in Brenu but as soon as we got there we were welcomed with open arms. They were all insistent on carrying our bags and were frantically trying to match us up with our buddies. The toilets are a lot better than expected although we realised it’s not possible to do a secret poo as you have to lug a bucket of water in there with you.
Funny fact of the day: Frankie H got herself a flight attendant admirer and Dan got called ‘Miss’ on the plane ticket.

Day 2
We were all abruptly awoken by the not-so-beautiful sound of cockerels followed by a tiring morning the macarena and duck-duck-goose-goose with the younger school children. We were incredibly flattered by the welcome ceremony and were astounded by the rich drumming and dance culture. We experienced Brenu village for the first time and were shocked at how many people who we’d never seen before already knew our names!
Funny fact of the day: Livi and Lexa walked in on an exposed Mrs Zaman in the shower.
Day 3
Today was our first day of Ghanaian labour, working on the kindergarten playground. Even though it was hard to get started because we were mobbed by children, trying to wear our glasses and looking at our cameras, we felt as though we made good progress. We were also able to knock down a chicken coop which was very stress-relieving for a few of us! The evening was a lot of fun but different to back home; we were taught Ghanaian dances and songs around the campfire with Robert on the drums and Dan on his guitar.
Funny fact of the day: Becca, Frankie and Frankie formed a root-busting squad
