This morning we woke up at 5:30am (as the birthday girl I woke up to “silly string” being sprayed over my tent). After having breakfast, we headed over to see a buffalo farm – we saw the buffalos being milked by a local farmer – and then visited a farm where the family showed us the process of making milk into curd. On the way back, we visited another Secondary School, which is going to open a link with another English school, and played a few games with the students. However one student arrived late; Izzy fell asleep on the bus (just like the rest of us) but didn’t wake up when we came to the school and none of us noticed that she didn’t get off the bus with us. When she woke upend saw no sign of the others she asked the drivers where everyone was. After they stopped laughing at her, she came into the school and didn’t miss out on anything!
In the afternoon we continued our project work – painting the Pre-school mural, renovating the climbing frame and painting/planting clay pots for the children. After lunch, our buddies joined us and we all worked together, overall finishing the projects, with time to eat birthday cake, drink fizzy drinks and chill out together, exchanging emails and taking lots of photos.
In the evening, a few girls left for Hambantota to collect their handmade saris – along with visiting Inosh’s house (a buddy’s house) for sweet tea and cake. Then we bought presents for all of our lovely buddies (friendship bracelets and clay elephants) before returning home for dinner and more cake.
