Quality Education workshop & playground construction project

Partner Schools Worldwide > Kimbolton School and Essaman United JHS > Quality Education workshop & playground construction project

Wednesday 10th July

After having had scrambled eggs and toast for breakfast at Stumble Inn, we set off to Essaman United again (in Ibrahim’s bus as opposed to the usual orange ‘spice’ bus). We arrived to see a classroom full of pupils and teachers drumming, singing, and dancing as part of their worship. And soon enough we too were eagerly singing – song of choice: Party in the USA by Miley Cyrus. Yet the splendor of our delightful harmonisation, encouraged by the accompanying drumming, left everyone wanting more. As a result, we ended up singing an encore to quench their thirst for the sweet, sweet sound of our voices. Together we attended a workshop discussing the importance of education, involving a trip to two different kindergartens, a Sabre school and a standard Ghanaian school. It was interesting to see the contrasting learning environments, yet the highlight of the day must have been seeing Obama’s smile as he shared the news of the big orange bus being fixed. Another highlight would be the children consistently asking Scarlett “are you China?”. Then we had a tour of the sites we are planning to build the playground on, using wood and tyres. This really wet our appetite to get started on the project, which we were discussing later on by the pool in the nearby hotel.
