Sports and cultural drum and dance workshop in Nsadwir community

Partner Schools Worldwide > Martin Cedars High School and Nsadwer Basic School > Sports and cultural drum and dance workshop in Nsadwir community

Day 8 – Tuesday, 9th July 2019

Today was a mix of activities: sports, music, dancing, and renovating. In the morning – after painting a colourful caterpillar on the wall – Chloe began the sports day of which she had organized. It involved lime-and-spoon races, a water bottle filling race, and a volleyball tournament. Toby got insanely big-headed after beating Tom in a race too. Afterwards, we moved onto our second of three workshops; the cultural workshop. This involved taking turns learning to play African drums, and learning (or trying to learn) how to do a Ghanaian greeting dance. We combined both of these newly acquired skills into a sort of mock-up celebration, which was embarrassing for all those involved. Thankfully, it was also very enjoyable. It ended with more dancing and even a fire-eating show, which will be VERY memorable. Whilst this was going on, the carpenter had arrived with our designs for shelve units and a puppet theatre. Then we did a tiny bit more painting and went back to the hostel.

Eoin and Toby. Day 8.
