Day 4 – Friday, 5th July 2019
n the morning we enjoyed toasted bread and hot chocolate. After that, we were thrown in the deep end. We went back to Nsadwir and we were each placed in a separate classroom, and that’s where we were left. Alone. It really gave us an opportunity to see how the classes are for the children. The kids though were so competitive and engaged we instantly felt comfortable. And the teachers too included us in what you could tell was an intimate and friendly atmosphere. After this was the workshop in which we compared two schools with our buddies: a standard one (the one we are helping) and a Sabre Islamic school. We visited the Islamic school after and were shown a young class, which we then compared with the Nsadwir classes. It was actually quite informative, and very interesting, to learn about how the school system works in Ghana. Then, we got a chance to look around the buddies’ village, leading up to their homes and families; the sight of such friendliness and enthusiasm in the face of deprivation was truly humbling. After returning to the motel, we took out some footballs and the parachute and tried to come up with ideas for games using them. However, we were soon surrounded by local children, who must’ve seen us playing. They joined in with introduction, which was quite strange. However, they were very polite and returned all of the equipment at the end. Although it was sad to see them go, it was because Mercy had get us some beautiful mashed yam! We’re now relaxing on the veranda looking forward to visiting the rain forest with our buddies, and getting up close and personal with the crocodiles.
