WEY T1 Dance, dance, dance!

Partner Schools Worldwide > Weydon and Dwabor JHS > WEY T1 Dance, dance, dance!

Day 8 – 14 April 2019

This is the second time that we’ve written this blog, because we accidentally deleted it the first time. Oops.

This morning we woke up to a delicious breakfast of porridge and toast, then relaxed for a while before splitting into three groups and heading to three churches across Dwabor where we participated in Palm Sunday celebrations. Some people took part in processions while others introduced themselves to congregations, but we all enjoyed the upbeat hymns.

After a delicious lunch of pasta salad, we didn’t have much time to rest as we instantly dove into a drum and dance workshop. Each group learned a different dance as well as various methods of playing djembe drums, before we (with varying levels of reluctance) performed our dances to the community, and saw some amazing performances including a fire dance!

We returned to camp where we made bracelets with our buddies, had an arm wrestling competition (the undefeated champion was our lovely guide Rob) and received our gorgeous clothes from Dwabor’s amazing tailor. Dinner was incredible too – a peanut soup with rice.

Afterwards, we were planning an impromptu concert with Dennis, who composed the anthem for the Weydon-Dwabor partnership! However,
it’s raining cats and dogs again, so we’re getting an early night so we can make the most of our last day in Dwabor tomorrow.

Goodnight and sleep well!

Another fantastic blog, thanks Eva and Theo. Love the photos, looks like you had loads of fun learning your dances! It’s lovely to see you all smiling. Sending a big hug to Elle xx

  2. These are great pics of you all dancing and having fun…bit weird seeing you in school uniform though! I am particularly impressed that you even got the chicken to dance in the picture where he is next to Mr Goodlud.

Can you believe you have all been in Ghana for over a week? You are definitely missed!

  3. Carol

I see Alex dancing with you! He was part of the partnership when the first teams travelled – taught us to build structures in bamboo! Give him my regards!
I hope you get to sing with Dennis, another long term friend of Weydon, get him to sing ‘Education is the key’ or the ‘Weydon welcome’ anthem he made up for us! Another inspiring Dwabor character.
So please you are getting the full experience!

Great to see you dancing Molly, think you have more chance of teaching the Ghanaians moves than of teaching me. Have a super end to the trip, really proud of you.
