Day 21. Friday, 27th July 2018.

Student leaders:Anne and Frankie

The group gathered on the beach at 5:30 to watch the sun rise and then prepared for the day ahead of us. We had a breakfast of omlets and watermelon.

We all piled onto the bus at 8:30 beginning our 1hr journey to Kankum National Park. On arrival at the national park we were greeted by a small monkey who took a liking to Charlotte. We then treKked up to the tree tops to cross 7 wobly bridges, treating ourselves to ice creams at the bottom.

The group climbed onto the buses ready for a 40 minute journey to a hotel where we ate the usual lunch -rice and red sauce. We then edged our way to the crocodile on the edge of the lake taking turns to stroke it. Once again we were back in the bus to travel a 40 minute journey to the slave fort. We were shown where 400 women and 600 men would be kept for 3 months at a time until they passed through the door of no return. Our tour guide continued to tell the shocking stories that room place behind those walls for around 536 years.

When our tour was over we traveled back to Stumble Inn to be greeted by CHICKEN AND CHIPS!!! The group were then introduced to African drummers and dancers who later performed traditional African dances and songs. Girls and boys then followed each other to the rocks by the sea where we watched the lunar eclipse. We then sat around the campfire and eat Annie’s birthday cake, definitely a night to remember!
