Day 20. Thursday, 26th July 2018

Student leaders: Daisy Plevin and Charlotte Pendlebury

The earliest awakening yet (5.40am) as we had a six hour treacherous journey ahead of us. For breakfast we had scrambled eggs, beans and bread. We then packed our bags onto the buses and were ready to depart from Aylos Bay at 7am. However we were held up by two over sleepers, not mentioning any names (cough Isee and Yaw). We finally started the long trek at 7.30am.

After a few hours cooped up on the sweaty bus, we arrived back in Accra and tried plantain chips for the first time (highly recommended). A few more hours passed and we had the greatest pit stop so far. Not only was there real life flushing toilets (as opposed to a hole in the ground), but there was the unfamiliar sight of Pringles and Dairy Milk, compelling almost every Hulmeian to spend at least 50 cedis. We were now all in high spirits to conclude the journey to Elmina.

We took a short detour to the Partner Ghana office to meet Isaac and Michael. After a short stay, we headed off to finish our journey to the Stumble Inn.

Once we finally arrived, we were surprised to see the beautiful beach only an English stone’s throw away from our hotel. Once we found our rooms and settled in, some of the group went swimming in a nearby pool. For dinner, we were happily surprised with POTATO chips and fried chicken. After dinner, we relaxed around a bonfire for the rat of the night.

See you all soon,

Daisy and Char
