Welcome Ceremony. First Day of Projects.

Partner Schools Worldwide > Kimbolton School and Essaman United JHS > Welcome Ceremony. First Day of Projects.

Day 4: Monday, 9th July 2018.

First Day at Essaman United.

After an enjoyable evening around the bonfire, we were again greeted by the cockerel to wake us up. After another pancake for breakfast, we got on the bus and made our way to the school.

Upon arrival, it was clear to see that we were going to be the centre of attention and we were immediately surrounded by what seemed like thousands of children. We made our way into the library to wait for a welcoming ceremony to begin. After a short burst of rain, the ceremony started with some words of welcome before an inspection of the school cadets. Then a cultural display filled with vibrance and colour entertained the whole group. At the end of the ceremony, we were invited to come into the middle and dance in front of the crowd. However, it was not long before the whole school was joining in, with the children fighting over who gets to hold one of our hands. That ended the ceremony, an hour and twenty minutes longer than we were told it was going to be, and we went to have lunch. After staying for a couple of workshops on sustainable development goals, we travelled back to the hotel for a refreshing swim in the sea, before a shower and dinner of stew and rice.
