Day 2-3-7th July 2018
We woke up early to a lovely breakfast and after we packed our bags onto the bus for a 4 hours journey to our partner school’s community. We stopped at a fuel station to buy some snacks and went a lovely beach bar to watch England world cup game which we won. We finally made it to the community where we were welcomed by lot of school children. They helped us remove our bags off the bus and we played with them a little. After that we took the first challenge of setting up our tents of which everyone eventually came through.
Our second dinner was amazing again (shout out to Judith) and we played a game involving the fun combination of rhythm and maths won by Erin due to Joe believing 103 was a multiple of 3 and Harry thinking 59 was in the 2 times table.
This morning we ate scrambled eggs with a sweet bread, and then it was time to walk down to town with our buddies for the welcome ceremony. Here we learned that none of us can dance and that George’s rendition of ‘God Save The Queen’ is something to be desired. The Ghanaians treated us to various poems and songs, and Dr Langdon addressed them in response before we all had to introduce ourselves… in Fante, which was not our finest moment. Next, Jack was dancing somewhat close to a female elder from the village and we wish them the best in the future of their relationship.
We then had lunch of chicken and chips and then began the project with some wall demolition and cement mixing which is particularly tough work in ~30 degree sun. We worked for about 3 hours and we are now playing cards and football. Dinner is soon and we look forward to working on the project again tomorrow.
