Day 9: 29/7/17
Today was a very productive day. We began with an early start as normal and had a breakfast of porridge, hot chocolate and toast before getting to work on the mural. Our mural is on the side of the main school and is based on the community in Dwabor. A number of students worked very hard on and it is nearly a finished piece of art that will remain for many years to come. Meanwhile Ben Taylor, Johnny and James worked really hard setting up the old slides and swings with cement. They had to move very heavy structures but kept smiling and had the help of their buddies too. It will be great to see the children playing somewhere safe during their school days. We had tuna sandwiches for lunch and then as a group had a last minutes rehearsal for the teenage pregnancy drama we had been working on with our buddies. The aim of the drama is on educate local people on the importance of contraception to lower the rate of underage pregnancies, something that causes a lot of problems in Ghana. As a group we produced a very effective piece portraying the difference between two teenagers with differing outcomes. Late on in the day we performed it to the local community which turned out to be very successful, with a very large local audience. We then made our way back to the school and had fried chicken and rice for dinner. To finish our day we danced and sang as usual with the buddies. The sun has been shining all day and we have all caught some colour.
Maddy
That sounds amazing Maddy – how wonderful to be able to make a genuine difference to peoples lives, with the repairs to the playground and by educating through drama.
