Day 7: 27/7/17
Today has been another amazing day here in Ayensudo, although very exhausting for some of us. We started the long day with a tasty breakfast which consisted of scrambled eggs on toast, or a Nutella sandwich for those craving the chocolaty spread. After breakfast, we practiced a bit of football so to warm us up for the match later in the day. Soon after this sweaty training session, we carried on painting the school’s playground, which now looks very bright and colorful. For those not into getting their clothes messy they got to teach a handful of classes, which is always eye opening for us as we get to see how lucky we are with our education back at home. Lunch was a traditional Ghanaian meal of rice, beans, fish and salad. We then dully waited for the Middlesbrough football team, also taking a school residential to Ayensudo. An hour later they finally turned up. We set off confidently to show off Weyden’s name. However, by halftime we were getting worried, only up by one goal the pressure was on to hold this score. This was obviously not to be, by the end it was 3-3 meaning we were into extra time. But even this opportunity was not enough for us to win, so we went into penalties. A dreadful performance from us left us with our heads held down and very stroppy. Although we made many excuses saying that we had fewer players and other typically sore looser comments. After recovering from our emotionally distraught state, we read with our buddies, which we were surprised with how good they were. Towards the end of the day, we ended up doing our daily chores and just having a relaxing time playing frisbee or having a general chat. As I write this now we’re sat round a fire singing songs and telling stories. It just goes to show that the people here in Ghana are always up for some fun.

Written by Joe Eves and Archie chipped in too.
