Farm and buddy home visits

Partner Schools Worldwide > Sacred Heart School > Farm and buddy home visits

Day 6: 25/7/17

This morning we woke up at 7 with a surprise. Breakfast had been served an hour early so we all sat down and ate still rather drowsy. We ate scrambled eggs on toast and set off to work. We began work at the school by putting the frame for the outdoor classroom in place. We also began carving the welcome sign to go on the front of the classroom. The sign includes parrots and the word ” Akwaaba” the fante word for welcome. For lunch we had cheese and tomato sandwiches and afterwards headed off to Belinda’s family farm. We learnt all about cassava whilst being eaten alive by ants. before returning to work at the school we visited our buddies homes to have a quick cookery lesson. We encountered another group of volunteers who we have challenged to a football match on Thursday. We returned to work at the school for the rest of the afternoon. This involved painting, carving, fixing tables and pouring concrete to create foundations for the outdoor classroom. We headed home for the evening at ate a very tasty curry. We had a fun productive day today and I’m sure tomorrow will be the same!
