Church service, Slave fort visit, birthday party

Partner Schools Worldwide > Sacred Heart School > Church service, Slave fort visit, birthday party

Day 4: 23/07/17
Today we had a breakfast at 7 which was omelet and bread. Then we walked up to the church near the school and took part in the service. We joined in the singing and dancing and sung two songs, this little light of mine and he is got the whole world in his hands. The ladies in the church gave us tambourines to use when we were singing and got us all up after to join in dancing at the front. We all really enjoyed the church and thought it was completely different to anything we have been to at home. Then we walked back to hotel with the buddies and waited for our bus to come and take us to the slave forts at Elmina Castle. this was interesting as we learnt about the history of slavery and different conditions in which the slaves lived in. Following this we went to the market to buy fabric for dresses that the seamstress will make for us. For Danny, we made a detour to the local fire station to see the fire fighters. We came back to the hotel after this and the buddies went home to get ready for the night. After tea, Erin and the Lilly’s distracted Ines while the rest of us set up the dinning area for her surprise party. We decorated in Ghana flag bunting, fairing lights and paper plates in the colour of the Ghanaian flag. Linda brought lots of English food and birthday cake for us to eat and so that the buddies can try the kind of food we eat at home. The buddies came and we sang Ines happy birthday and ate food while we chatted with the buddies. The buddies thought our English food was nice and they played us music they like to listen to.
