Day 5: 02/07/2017
So as today was Sunday it was right that we attended a church service here in Cape Coast so we did so. After a lovely breakfast of pancakes we set off with our buddies. The walk down to church wasn’t long at all but the weather wasn’t great. It started to drizzle then even before we had to arrive at the church is was raining and unfortunately I didn’t have a hooded jacket. We had missed the first service so we waited whilst the people came out so that we could enter. The church was massive at the top of the hill. We were seated at the back and there I could observe the church structure. The two jubilee boys next to me (Alex and Samuel) were showing me the songs in Fante. The church welcomed us well by welcoming us on their screens and inviting us up at the front. After a few readings we took offering and after being seated the Rokeby boys were invited up. It was nice to have the acknowledgement by the priest and again the church welcomed us by saying “ You are welcome”. After we made our way back to Prospect Lodge after a few pictures in front of the church. By this time the weather was better. When we arrived everybody had the chance to change their clothing as we were heading out to the Sunday market. It was very busy; a lot of people selling many things as well as vast number of customers all instantly being persuaded to buy something. After about 30 minutes we had been around the market. I got to see one of Ghana’s police stations, absolutely nothing compared to how it is back in London but was still interesting to see. Whilst out at the market we met Mr. Opoku’s Dad, he happens to be a king, so it was an honour to meet him and later on back at the lodge we took some pictures with him.
Shortly we arrived back at prospect to have lunch. We had Plantain, Beans stew, Kakro and rice. It was a beauty; we all thank Augustina for the scrumptious meals. Shortly we set off for the beach. The walk to the beach wasn’t long either, it was right next to Cape Coast Castle. We had some footballs with us so when we arrived we got straight to playing and the weather was great. The sea was so attractive as well but we couldn’t go too far in or swim but we could still get wet. It wasn’t long until the weather was upsetting again but it didn’t stop us from having fun it felt even better funny enough. Some people were being buried; I even fell asleep because of how cozy it was. Eric and I drew a few pictures in the sand but it was only a matter of seconds before the tide came in and washed it away. After we were called back to Prospect where people have the opportunity to big things. It was pretty much a straight walk home so it wasn’t long. When I returned, I showered to wash the sand off my body, I tidied up and then came down. We played football downstairs with the young ones that lived here before having dinner. Today dinner was fried yam and chicken. After eating we discussed the plan for the next day few days where we could suggest what should be on the menu and it was sounding great so far. The evening was ours after this. Today was a great day and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
