Day 4 – Monday 3 / 04 /17

This morning rose at 5:45 to the sound of annoying cockerel. This morning today’s leader Archie set tone with catching the smallest chicken in the village. Shortly after this, chicken murderer Amber, decided that she should feed the chicken bread ( which apparently kills chickens). Following these chicken antics, we tucked into some delicious omelet sandwiches, lovingly made by Archie, Lizzy Mosca, and Amber.

In the boiling heat of the Ghanaian morning, we set to work! Our first job was to move sand, water and cement for a new canteen floor. Firstly, with perfect teamwork, and some ferocious axing of dry sand. And shovelled by the whole team, with some stand out performances from amber and Lizzy Southwick. Having finished that we split up into 2 groups, one team finishing the cement laying and the other organising the library. With some huge shifts coming from Lea, Zoe and Maddy. For lunch and we had toasted tuna sandwiches.

After a much needed re-fuel we got back to sorting out the library. Where the girls decided to have a dance to Beyonce and Taylor Swift. While this was happening Izzy M, Maddy and Ms G went to town in a trotro and bought many goods for the school, such as white board pens and paint for tomorrow’s painting. After this a woman came to school and we bought fabrics for clothes that they will make for us. Ollie and Archie then spent an hour with the older village children playing football on the football pitch, which is a very grassy considering that it is in Ghana.

Later on we had to rehearse a play on reducing teen pregnancy, where we saw Archie impregnate an Ghanaian girl named Amina. The play included wordie performance by Amber and Zoe as Amina’s mother and sister. We had to perform the play on Wednesday in front of the whole school.

In the past 2 days we have started the awards ‘ Star of the Day’ and ‘ Dip of the day’. So far the Stars have been Maddy for all round hard work and Izzy M for always trying hard and being positive most of the time. The Dip of the Day award has been held by Archie once again, for spilling watermelon juice all over Ms G’s feet, throwing dirty sweaty socks everywhere and over using the term ‘supreme leader’ ( which he is not)
P.S No chickens have died yet.

Supreme Leader ( Archie) and others.
