Weydon T2 – Rainforest Canopy Walk and Crocodile Sanctuary

Partner Schools Worldwide > Weydon and Dwabor JHS > Weydon T2 – Rainforest Canopy Walk and Crocodile Sanctuary

Team 2- Day 10 By Kate
What a day! Today the cook team woke up at 5:50 to help Mary prepare breakfast of eggy bread which was delicious as always. We then finished packing our rucksacks with the essentials for the busy day ahead. We split into two minibuses with our buddies and set off to Kakum National Park which was around an hour away; on the way we enjoyed jamming with some great music arriving around 10am. There, we discovered there were some actual working toilets which was a great surprise to everyone! We set out to the canopy with our buddies and trekked across 7 treetop walkways, some of the buddies were quite nervous but all enjoyed it in the end. A lot of photos were taken and we went back to the rainforest floor to enjoy a tasty lunch prepared earlier by Mary and bought some sweet treats. Jumped back into the vans and travelled another 20 minutes to a coco plantation. The farmer took us through the process of harvesting coco plants and we all got to try some raw coco bean which had a surprisingly sweet outer layer. It was very interesting as a majority of chocolate produced comes from Ghana. We also learnt the importance of fair-trade to help these farmers make a living and saw the difficulties of working on the plantation.
Set off again and travelled to a crocodile sanctuary (Hans Botel) which was very fancy and some of the team paid to pose with a crocodile! An hour passed as we relaxed with our favourite fan-ices before we carried on our journey to our final destination. The beach was very beautiful and picturesque, we played volleyball and many of us jumped or were dunked in the sea! We all really enjoyed the late afternoon spent at the beach before we set off back to Ayensudo to enjoy some dinner of rice and palava sauce (tomato and egg sauce). The campfire was also a lot of fun as we all sung and danced before played a pretty heated game of uno. We have all had an exhausting but very enjoyable day.
(p.s happy bday mum, have a great day! xx)
