Reading Blue Coat in Ghana

17/7
Sunday started off with the calling of a bullied goat at 5am in the morning which was music to everyones ears. After getting into our Sunday best, we met our buddies and headed into the village. We visited three churches starting off with the biggest Catholic church. In sharp contrast to the UK most of us enjoyed the service as they filled with dance and plenty of African drumming. Following that we ventured down to the Pentecost Church to be met by a warm welcome with equal amounts of singing and dancing. The final church we visited was the Methodist church which was luckily in English. After returning and getting into to swim wear we headed for the beach. Within seconds of arriving we were all in the sea mucking about. On the journey back we got into a battle of song exchanging football chants and British classics (wonderwall)to their gospel songs. After which to realise they were singing the same three songs over and over and over. After returning we parted with our buddies and relaxed for the evening.

Monday was a successful day for the team in terms of the project. We made good progress in painting two kindergartens classrooms along with shutters ad doors as well as starting on the foyer. This has created a far better learning environment for the children and we are confident it will look great when finished.
In the evening we spent time with our buddies before going to bed after a tiring day.

On Tuesday we continued work int he kindergarten and cemented the pathway which are now a lot safer. In the afternoon we had an outing with our buddies to Elmina Castle – an old salve fort. This was a very harrowing trip and we all found it very thought provoking. We spent the evening with our buddies before an early night as the team is knackered.

Wednesday was a highly successful day on the project as we managed to complete painting the remaining kindergarten classrooms as well as beginning resurfacing a pathway. the day ended with a drumming an dancing workshop. Spirits remain high with the team motivated to make a progress on the project.

Thursday was another productive day with us nearly finishing th painting of th inside of kindergarten as well as repainting the toilets. After a few days of very hard work the team had time to recover with an afternoon at the beach.

22/7
Friday morning saw the completion of the inside of the kindergarten and the start of painting of the outside. In the afternoon we had an outing to Elmina market and Cape Coast where we enjoyed bantering with the locals and making friends with some goats.

23/7
On Saturday morning the project work continued with more painting and cement work. After lunch we walked down to another beach resort where we enjoyed the afternoon reading before heading back to spend evening with our buddies.

24/7
The morning was seen ton project work and then in the afternoon we challenged our buddies to a game of football which we won 2-1.

25/7
Monday was a successful day with the kindergarten almost completed. The team worked well all day and then enjoyed a night time walk to release some crabs which were given to us to earlier in the day by some children from the village.

26/7
Tuesday saw completion of the project and an enjoyable visit to Cape Coast for some shopping. On Thursday we will leave for our tour after what is likely to be an emotional goodbye to our buddies.
