Blog Post-Thursday 21st July
Today we finished our journey from Dubai to Accra, it was a long journey but we were entertain by the films and games on the flight. Unfortunately when we arrived our luggage wasn’t there but hopefully it will be here tomorrow! After arriving at our hostel we took the coach to Trashy Bags where we found out about how they make accessories from recycled rubbish from the streets of Accra, we enjoyed buying some of these interesting souvenirs. For dinner we had chicken and spicy rice from the hostel restaurant, the portion sizes were huge. –Felicity,

Today started off waking up early and eating an omelette sandwich. Next, we said goodbye to the hostel and headed to pick up the other team so we could begin our journey to Ayensudo-around a 4 hour drive. Whilst driving we took regular pit stops to buy our new favourite snack, ‘Fan Ice’ which only costs one Cedi (20p). On the way we stopped off at the partner schools office to drop of our valuables. Finally, we arrived in Ayensudo to the best welcome we could have asked for- thousands of children swarmed us and we finally met our buddies. After we walked down to meet the Elders, a ceremony that included introducing ourselves, shaking hands and dancing. Next we assembled our camp beds and mosquito nets and had a lovely dinner of rice and eggs. Unfortunately only 7 people have only one of their bags but they should hopefully arrive in the next few days. –Jess

Day 4 without bags, however we all coping extremely well (even if we smell a bit). We started our day with a lovely plate of porridge. After we played several card games along with our new favourite Spyfall. Next we spent the morning painting several buildings white with a Weydon green along the bottom half. It was frustrating trying to carefully paint around the murals, but we were very pleased when we saw the finished product. Next for lunch we had some lush tuna/cheese sarnies made brilliantly by the cook team, Augustine and Mary. Then in the afternoon we just continued to paint, in total we painted for 7 hours but we proud of one completed building and two nearly done. Then in the evening we had some brilliant stories courtesy of Paddy before a fire lit by all our buddies and some singing and dancing lead by Marianna. The highlight of this was having a dance off against our Ghanaian buddies, needless to say we lost. We then went to bed after a long hard day feeling happy from our first full day of an Ayensudo experience. – Peter W
