Weydon School – what is ‘elle’?

Today was our first day at the Janoda foundation.
We started out by going to the foundation’s kindergarten and meeting the adorable children there. They greeted us with miscellaneous flowers and led us inside, where we sang songs and played games (they loved the bubbles!)

After lunch we set off to the Tzu Chi school where we were met by our buddies, their families and a delicious feast, full of foods they had made for us. Our buddies and their friends then performed a welcoming ceremony, including singing, acting and dancing!

Our buddies then showed us how to play one of their games Elle, which is a little bit like rounders. After they easily beat us we went into town to buy our saris and sarongs (which the boys found considerably easier than the girls).

After a quick change we set off to the beach and paddled in the sea, where we also donated some torches to the owners to help guide the turtles. We then returned home and had a delicious dinner – Olivia

Quotes of the day-
‘Do seagulls live in Sri Lanka?- are they called Srigulls?’-Toby
‘I feel like a prom queen’- Simon
‘They probably speak better English than me, they probably pronounce their t’s’ …. Toby, what’s your name?
