Tuesday 4th August
Last night the majority of our team decided to sleep outside, so we were awaken rather early by the sun rise, however everyone managed to fall straight back to sleep again only to be woken up 10mins before breakfast. After eating and getting dressed we all tidied up the bag room before the nursery kids arrived, then we went into the playground to play with them. Next we finished off our projects, which included Harri, Charlie and Reuben searching through the garden for buffalo poo to use as fertiliser for the vegetable patch . This was followed by the nursery children leading us outside as a tiny marching band with all their musical instruments before they all lined up to give us flower garlands and to take photos. In three groups we introduced the children to all our new projects (and team 1 and 3’s sand pit) such as the vegetable patch (where the kids planted seeds) and reading area. They really enjoyed all of them! Finally we added the finishing touches to all the murals and the globe. By lunch time everyone was starving so the rice and curry was eaten very quickly!
Once all the work was done we were allowed to hop on the bus and drive to Hambantota, where the boys did some shopping while the girls went to pick up their sarees and visit Inosh’s house (a team 1 buddy). We were given cake, bananas and tea . Then we all met up on the bus and found out that the boys had taught Karu how to say ‘banter’ which amused us all. Next Karu took us to see the Hambantota light house and a look out tower which had some fantastic views! On the way back we stopped off at ‘food city’ where we all stocked up on snacks ready for our long trip home on Thursday. Dinner was nice, yet once again rice and curry but we were also given ice cream which was amazing! After eating we made some rotti dough ready for cooking in the morning. Now we are having our first rain storm since arriving in Hambantota so we can’t sleep outside .
Lots of love Amelia ❤️
