After a well earned lie-in, team three were treated to a traditional Sri Lankan dish for breakfast, Rotis. This coconut and wheat flower blend made for a great treat, and when combined with the local buffalo treacle reminded us of the pancakes we sometimes have back in England.

Our stomachs full, we made our way to the Tzu Chi national school, Saris in hand, for a goodbye ceremony with the Sri Lankan buddies. This included team three giving their buddies their gifts, and some short but meaningful speeches from the buddies both English and Sri Lankan. These expressed the value which the event had given to them and how much they had learn about each other’s culture. With beautiful performances of Sri Lankan dance and drama also part of the ceremony, team three were keen to return the favour with a rendition of “swingtime” from the play, “divorce me darling”. Although this was not the last time we see our buddies, the show they put on for us brought a tear of sadness to a few in the team.

After leaving the school, we spend much of the rest of the day doing project work, making real progress on the murals. The Lizard is now finished, the under water scene needing only some Sinhala translations, and the sand pit now has one side painted with shapes and the other with the Janoda foundation logo Weydon School crest. Tomorrow is our last day doing project working it appears as if we are right on track to complete it fully.

After the vast amount of progress made during project work, team three felt it fitting to take a visit to the local corner shop down the road, for soft drinks and snacks. Afterwards the team discussed project plans for tomorrow feeling prepped for another day of hard work.
