Day 6

We woke to cloud cover and set to the task of building cement blocks for the canteen. Our plans were soon scuppered as it poured down. Some were better than others, not mentioning any names (Ed Tabbari). Due to the rain, we moved indoors to paint where we had our first incident of the trip with Harry Woolley somehow cutting his hand with a paint brush. In the afternoon, we went to Cape Coast. Here there were many stalls and a castle. On the way back, we all stocked up with chocolate and crisps at the Shell garage.

Day 7

In the morning we cracked on with the strenuous work mixing the cement for the classroom floors. This was very hard work but we all did it brilliantly, especially in the heat. Also, we started digging the foundations of the canteen, using Poppy as a measuring stick. After work, we washed our clothes with our buddies i.e they showed us how to wash by hand! We then danced and played football and ended up having a Ghanaian mosh pit to ‘Jesus is coming’ – it was wild. We finished the day off with yet another delicious meal from our cook Naomi: chips for dinner!

P.S Ollie is still banned from playing the ukulele
