Day 3

After a 7.30 departure, we made our way to the rainforest. A quick but steep walk up the hill was a challenging start to the day, made easier by the abundant wildlife: a huge ant trail and colourful birds. Once we were hundreds of metres high we embarked on 7 wobbly canopy walks which echoed those in ‘I’m a celebrity’! However the beautiful scenery from high up settled our nerves and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the outing. Our buddies then came back with us to Stumble and we spent a few hours on the beach. We spent the rest of the afternoon making bracelets with our partners.

Day 4

After another early departure, the group arrived at school to start the projects. For some, this meant painting inside, others clearing out shelves and sanding away. A challenging start but worth it due to the enthusiasm of the Essaman school kids. That afternoon we went and visited our buddies’ houses, a mixture of living styles and conditions. Some were more fortunate than others and some people were even able to go inside the houses, a very eye opening part of the trip.

Day 5

Continuing the project work was today’s agenda, getting covered in paint by Ghanaian students was not!! Today was a far more effective day and the whole library and outer building is almost finished. All of the shelves were sanded and varnished and the murals are well under way. All the group took it upon themselves to do something, be it teaching the young kids ‘the Hokey Cokey’ or painting in the sun. After a long day’s work, the group went back to Stumble and most went swimming with Mr Pollard in the next door hotel’s pool. Well earnt relaxation to say the least! Some were even lucky enough to find the restaurant; even if the food did take 60 minutes. The day ended with noodles for dinner, relaxing on the beach and watching the World Cup in Stumble’s very crowded bar!
