Day 1 – 5th April

At 6am on a Saturday morning we woke up bright and early to start our journey. We got to the airport with all 16 students and 31 bags and got through with no major problems. The first plane was only about an 1 hour but the one from Germany to Ghana was about 8. When we got off the plane at 6:55 we felt the heat instantly and we made our way through the airport which was a daunting experience. We then met Osumanu and Musa and taken onto the big blue bus for an exciting night time drive around Accra. We then arrived at New Haven Hostel where we stayed the night. As we were all dying for a drink that was our main priority when we arrived. After a long day of travelling we hit the hay!

 Day 2 – 6th April

We had another early start, we had to be up and ready to leave by 6:30 to beat the Accra traffic. We road the big blue bus and drove for roughly an hour to stop for breakfast and then continued our journey to Ayensudo. One of the memorable experiences of the journey was driving through the Refugee Camp and seeing all the white tents but still very happy people. We then arrived in the village to a wonderful welcoming from all the children and the Chief of the village. The Chief of the village gave his permission and promised that we would be safe in their village. We had our first meal prepared and cooked by Augustine and it was lovely. After setting up camp we were then able to sit around a campfire and learnt some Fante (the local language.) After another long day we grateful the go to sleep even though we were outside in our mosi nets.
