Day 7
On Thursday we woke up a little earlier than usual, as were going to visit the cocoa plantation. The bus journey there took longer than we thought and we ended up sitting on the bus for over an hour. Luckily it was air-conditioned!
When we arrived at the plantation, we first went to the nursery where the cocoa seeds were planted. It was very interesting and our tour guide told us all about how it is grown and the different stages of the process. We then drove a little further into the actual cocoa plantation. We had to walk with our buddies along a narrow winding path. At the centre of the plantation, we each got to pick a ripe cocoa pod to split open and eat. You had to lick the pith off the white beans before eating the cocoa inside – it was very sweet!
Later, we came back to Stumble Inn for some lunch and R&R. We got to go to a hotel nearby which had a swimming pool – it was amazing!
Day 8
On Friday, we went to Essaman United in the morning. Jess and Ayla helped paint the mural which looked great. The rest of us painted some interior walls and wrote letters to Nestle and Cadbury’s explaining why their products should all be fair trade. We also did some green hand prints on the walls to look like trees! The finished result looked great!
In the afternoon, all of our buddies came to Stumble Inn for the last time. We did a drumming and dancing workshop which was so fun. The end of the day came and it was time to say goodbye to our buddies. We were all very emotional to see them go and some of us cried, including our buddies!
In the evening we watched a drumming, dance and acrobatics performance and also showed off some of our new skills! Overall it was incredibly fun and a day I am sure none of us will ever forget.
