Day 2

Breakfast was served and we quickly tucked into a banana pancake. The heat was scorching and unfortunately we had a huge hill to climb to get to school. We sat down in a swarm of happy children welcoming us to their school. The welcome ceremony began with drumming and dancing. It didn’t take long before they invited us to dance with them! Thankfully, the heat dropped and the breeze grew as we felt the first few drops of rain. We had a look around their classrooms and what previous Chesham students had done. We also gave out some gifts. After school, we had lunch at the beach (chicken and rice). After that we got in our bus (the first air-con since arriving!) and went to Elmina town to visit the old slave fort. We took a tour and found out about the slave trade. After that we headed back to the village, had a shower and ate another delicious meal. Overall it was a great day.

Day 3

Today was a rest day at the beach – we had a sand castle competition and played with hundreds of local kids – which they loved! It was really hot so we sunbathed and drank soft drinks. For dinner we tried a local speciality, rice and peanut stew!
