Day 4
Today we visited the Basilica of Elmina which was on top of a hill. We had a tour around the church museum and then attended one of the Easter day services. The service was very long and we only stayed for half of it but it was interesting to see worship in Ghanaian culture. After that we visited the market inside Cape Coast castle and did some souvenir shopping; some of us were better than others at bartering! We returned to Stumble Inn and paddled in the sea to cool off.
Day 5
This morning, our Ghanaian buddies came to Stumble Inn where we did drum-making and learnt some Fante. This afternoon, we visited Elmina Castle, which was interesting but extremely hot. The castle was a holding point before slaves were shipped off to places like Brazil and we found out about the terrible conditions in which they were kept. Their time inside the castle was cramped, suffocating and sanitation was poor. After our tour, we wrote down reflections on our visit. We are all looking forward to more activities in school tomorrow.
