Monday 1st April

After an eventful night, involving a swift move of the mosquito nets due to a tropical storm, we awoke later than anticipated. Once we had eaten breakfast, we learnt the skilful art of washing (something that we need to work on after watching the Ghanaians do it!)! When we had finished the scrubbing, the team split into two sub teams; one to go shopping and the larger of the two to stay at the kindergarten to make the preparations for the Easter-themed games planned for the afternoon! The preparations included cutting out cardboard Easter eggs for the little children to decorate and sourcing some hiding places to hide the plastic eggs for an Easter egg hunt!!! Once the cook team had prepared a feast of cheese and tomato sandwiches` for lunch, the games began!!! Firstly a rather hot and sticky game of musical statues and then an Easter egg hunt- the children had to hunt around the kindergarten to find the plastic eggs, and in return they received smiley face stickers and balloons. To our delight, the children thoroughly enjoyed blowing up the balloons and playing with them. Upon wearing the children out, we were able to prepare a lush dinner of sausages and jollof rice. Once our stomachs were yet again full, we welcomed the Ghanaians up for an under-the-stars bonfire, with a host of singing, dancing and a range of traditional Ghanaian games. When the bonfire died out, much to the teams hot and flustered delight, we headed to bed, when yet again Nana Enuah had to tell us to stop laughing with the cleaning the long drop threat- seemed to work!!

Tuesday 2nd

A rushed start to the day to get us to the school for 8am start and then the start was delayed to 10am! We met all the new teachers in the KG and P1 and 2 classes and watched them in their lessons. After we were introduced to the teachers at the school the skies opened and it rained SO hard. We were grateful to those at the KG who put our beds away out of the rain!!
We worked in the classrooms of the primary school, reading stories and helping with the lessons until lunch and now are starting our mural on the end wall of the school by painting the base layer of yellow, mostly on the wall at least.
We are looking forward to the meal of ground nut soup and rice balls that Evie and Dom are cooking for us, with the help of the wonderful Augustina.
