This morning, we went back to school and met our buddies once again. We took part in 3 science lessons: one about operating and assembling circuits, one about the use of solar energy and one using the density equation in an experiment. Everybody enjoyed the teaching and learning about the buddies’ culture.
Afterwards, we returned to the Janoda Foundation and had lunch of rice, squid and lentils. In the afternoon, we went to the elephant sanctuary and watched them during feeding time. This tugged on many heartstrings as the baby elephants at the orphanage were extremely cute. Then, we took off in a Jeep on an Udawalwe safari where we saw elephants up close, buffalos and many birds.
For many of us, this was the most interesting part so far despite the fact we were caught in a storm- most even thought this enhanced the safari experience. It was the ultimate jungle experience as our senses were taken on a journey, we smelt amazing jungle plants such as lantana. Following this, we ate tea at a local restaurant and tried ‘hoppers’ (eggs on a Sri Lankan cross between pancakes and crumpets) and set yoghurt for dessert.
