What’s going on guys, Jonny’s blog today!
After a peaceful night under the eves of the foundation, 8 of us plus Ms Chophla set off at 5:30 AM to the Hambantota fish market to watch the beautiful sunrise and to see the morning’s catch, we’ve taken some great photos. After a brief disruption from some locals needing the loo where we were sitting, we headed back to Janoda to find the remaining team members still asleep!
A breakfast of omelettes set us on our way to a dance rehearsal session at Tzu Chi School. The buddies had their prize giving so we went off to buy food from the Food City Supermarket and sarongs as presents for our hosts Buddi and Karu Gamage. We arrived back at Tzu Chi in perfect time for the finish of their ceremony so we began a game of Elle, a rounders style game with long bamboo sticks and a little more violence… it was great fun and with mixed teams with Tzu Chi and Weydon, team spirit was high. Unfortunately, my team lost to Sam’s team but there are no hard feelings.
This afternoon we continued with the mural on the preschool and painting the equipment in the playground. After a couple of hours in the hot sun, we headed off to the Shangri La hotel in Hambantota to visit the artisan village and to go in the pool as a generous present from Karu. After, the boys finally had a hot shower in the changing room and we relished the opportunity. The girls? Didn’t have time apparently.
At Janoda we trialled the Biriani rice that we will be having tomorrow with the buddies in the evening. There were mixed reviews. Soon we are off to bed, with Archie joining and making the outside crew 7(Elodie, Matt, Tom, Lily, Emily, Me, Archie) as tonight is the last night we will sleep under the stars because of packing etc.
So, tomorrow is the last day with the buddies for which I am quite sad. We will have a big party and dancing where we will wear our sarongs and sarees. It’s going to be great.
We have some great stuff planned for the journey up to Colombo and we are all looking forward to seeing you on Monday morning!
Thanks for reading,
Jonny
