This morning started off with an early start at 6:00.
We took Raja the elephant on a walk through the forest
We were all very tired due to an unexpected visitor in our room with 8 legs. There was many screams and squeals coming from the boys’ room. Mrs Warnock sorted out the situation and we had a peaceful night sleep. We then cleaned up the river where the elephants wash and had to clean up poo and sticks. After lunch we started our project work, we have been producing two databases of international schools and schools that do gold DofE to help MEF to advertise what they do with volunteers to a wider audience. We also painted a board to put at the ‘Vet Check Area’ we cleared yesterday and painted the inside of the showers. We also wrote a scanverger hunt/quiz for new volunteers to use as they find their way around the Foundation and finally an elephant fact quiz to add into the activities in the museum for the public visitors. We hope to make a film to advertise the elephant walks which MEF have started to try to encourage people not to do the elephant rides that are so damaging to the elephants. We worked hard and earned ourselves a ride in a tuk tuk before supper which was very fun.
About half the team opted for a short walk to a small outdoor swimming pool at a local hotel; the others had much awaited showers and just chilled at the volunteer bungalow.
We had supper and are now chilling with ping pong, chess and general relaxation.
Last day in MEF tomorrow which is very sad but we are going to have a big push and get everything finished, and get to our activities on time to prove that we can! Ryan and Averil the volunteer coordinators at MEF have been great fun and really helpful.
