DAY 8-Sunday, 29th July 2018
Today we woke up at around 6:30, and enjoyed some toast and porridge for breakfast. We then relaxed for a couple of hours before taking a short walk to the local church at 9:30am. The cultural difference between Ghana and England, became immediately apparent during the service due to the musical styles and the general mood within the church. We were all reluctant when called to the front in order to introduce ourselves, however the locals clearly appreciated the gesture and were very welcoming. At around 11:30am we headed back to the school for a lunch of spaghetti bolognese.
Following this we took a short drive to Elmina castle with our buddies, where we had a tour of the historical site, and took in a lot of fascinating information from our guide. We all thoroughly enjoyed exploring the dungeons and learning more about the history of West Africa and the slave trade in the 1800s. Following this we enjoyed a cold milkshake on the short drive to view a memorial.
Once we returned to the school we organised all of our donations, before taking some time to relax and have dinner.
We are now sitting around a warm campfire singing, chatting and laughing when Joe leaned back, breaking two legs of his chair.
Although most of us are beggining to miss the comforts of home, along with our family, friends, pets (and Charlotte’s glasses) we are having an amazing time and are finally settling in to life in Ghana.
