Day 8. Saturday 14th July 2018
Student leaders: Jack and Aleks
We were awoken early this morning around 6am, due to intense morning exercise. Breakfast was served later than usual: pancakes with a variety of optional toppings. Breakfast was rather filling but fortunately we were gifted with appropriately 90 minutes of relaxation/personal time. Soon afterwards, we went to the SDA Church, where we were warmly greeted by Pastor Daniel Effah.
Although the mass lasted approximately 2 hours and some were beginning to feel agitated, we believe the majority of Project Ghana team were entertained via the effervescent nature of Pastor Daniel along with fellow worshipers. We returned to the hostel and, as Saturday is regarded as a day of rest for many in Ghana, no labour was done at the schools. Lunch consisted of corned beef and tuna pasties. At 4.20, the dark cumulonimbus clouds brought conventional rainfall along with roaring thunder and a blaze of light from the sky, resulting in a power shortage, where light flickered inconsistently for the duration of 3 hours. The storm also resulted in notable flooding around the hostel, which then had to be painstakingly cleaned. Dinner consisted of rice, beans and plantain.
Although minimal progress was made at the school, we feel as though many of our peers were slightly fatigued. We think this day of rest was well deserved.
