Day 12: 14/07/17
With some finally feeling the strain of two weeks in Ghana, we packed ourselves up over a hearty vegetable omelet breakfast while getting dress the girls were surprise with their customs fitted patterned dress and the boys wore patterned shirts. Dan and Suzzan wore matching colours with similar to the students. We then all gathered in the school ground for the goodbye ceremony. There were speeches from the Dutch Komenda community and gift exchange. We were asked to sing a son for the ceremony so we sang the cup song even using cups on a table while performing. We handed over the finished project, ICT Lab, white boards in every room and an other side canteen. Lunch in stomach, a group of us set off on a long walk to British Komenda, there were visited a nursery school of Emmanuel, the vice principal of Dutch Komenda School ( is expanding and growing). Hot, sweaty and tired after the walk back we then used paint to make our hand print on the canteen we were working on. Our buddies used black paint while we used red. All of our group received gifts from our buddies. The girls received dress and jewellery and the boys received shirts. Edd’s buddy gave him a long piece of clothing that was white and draped down to his knees. He wore it with style.
Gathered together we watched a drum and dance performance, it was absolutely incredible with drummers bending in all short of ways, sticking fire sticks down their trousers,. At the end we were encourage to involve dancing in front of everyone. Beth and I showed off our English dance move to finish the night we gather with the Ghanaian buddies, to eat a cultural buffet with many of us eating a bit too much , then we danced and sang around a bonfire, spending the last moment with our buddies. I felt a mixture of emotional both positive and negative. I feel ready to go back to England but I will miss Ghana and its quirks. Good night!
