Nottingham Team works hard to finish project on time

Partner Schools Worldwide > Nottingham Emmanuel and Dutch Komenda > Nottingham Team works hard to finish project on time

Day 10 – 12/07/2017

We woke up this morning to the sound of the cockerel and clear blue skies, and whilst pottering across the dry, red sand, in the blue glow of dawn, from my tent to the water tank for my morning wash bucket, I started to realize, with only a few days left, how much I would miss this simplicity. However, only a few days left also meant there must be a lot of hard project work to be done in the ahead. After a good breakfast of eggy bread and ketchup, the team seemed raring to go, and we spent the day ploughing though the final stages of the canteen block and ICT suite – laying concrete, painting walls and drawing murals to brighten the place up. During a short break for lunch we had a surprise visit from the “abruni” living in the next village along a 23 year old American on a two year placement to support development in the area. After wolfing down our salad sandwiches, whilst contemplating the challenge of a two year placement in our little village, we set hard to work again, and in spite of the heat, the team worked tirelessly. When the sun began to set, we finally decided to set down our brushes and prepare ourselves for a dinner of grated yam and vegetable sauce, and after polishing off the food, we enjoyed the picturesque backdrop of palm tree silhouettes against a sky of red, orange and blue. To end the day, we are gathered around the table challenging a few children from the village to a game of cards – language seems to be no barrier for this one, and they have been showing off some quite impressive shuffling skills! A good day on the site.

Suzannah.
